The general insurance company, United India Insurance Company Ltd, is on a hiring spree and plans to hire about 7000 agents and 1000 staff members over a period of coming three months. Talking about the matter, the Chairman and Managing Director of United India Insurance, Mr. Milind Karat said, "Our agent force is 53,000 now. We will have 60,000 agents before the end of current financial year."
The public sector insurer also plans to recruit 400 officers and 600 clerks in the financial year 2012-13. It is reported that the agents and the staff of the insurance company will augment the company's retail business in rural regions of the country. Mr. Karat further added, "Our business focus now is on rural retail which contributes about a little over 12 per cent of our total business."
Previous fiscal the Chennai based insurer did business worth Rs. 8179 crore and this fiscal it is hoping to achieve Rs. 10,000 crore. The company has identified health insurance and auto insurance as its biggest growth drivers. The company had recently achieved break-even point in the health insurance segment, which is growing at an annual rate of 25 to 30 percent.
