Public sector lender Union Bank of India has harbored plans to set up 130 ATMs in Tamil Nadu thereby taking its total ATM count to 5000 in this fiscal, said Mr Lalit Sinha, General Manager (Alternate Channels and New Initiative Department). The lender also aims to make 60% of its transactions electronic thereby making lesser usage of branches. As of the year 2009, electronic transactions held only 35% of the total transactions for the bank. The bank has also won the ‘ACI Excellence Award' 2011 for the project, ‘customer empowerment using ACI solution BASE 24,' said Sinha. He added that a new pilot project called 'cashless transaction' has been started by the bank in a university in Madhya Pradesh.
