Few months back Reserve Bank of India ordered that every point of sales terminal and ATM should be biometric based. All the credit card accepting machines and ATMs should be effective in authenticating the transactions based on biometric information using the Aadhaar database.

Banks are finding it difficult to initiate this process. According to the banks they need to purchase expensive equipment and further they need to connect the machines to 3G connection. Therefore new generation banks have reduced the addition of fresh credit cards POS terminals.

Some banks are hoping that new government might reconsider on this aadhar authentication directive. Many banks have slowed down on adding the new pos terminal while Axis bank is still active in deploying new POS and ATMs. At present Axis bank is having the largest ATM network and second largest network of POS terminals.
