Govt to launch prepaid cards for bank account based on Aadhaar number

The Delhi Government to launch a prepaid card based on the Aadhaar number. Delhi's Chief Minister, Mrs. Sheila Dixit will launch the card.

The prepaid card is based on the same principle of a mobile prepaid card and can be topped up like that of mobile sim. Now the customer who holds an Aadhaar card can walk into any of the kiosks and get access to a bank account using a prepaid card.

The Reserve Bank of India has also notified that Aadhaar card can be used as Know Your Customer proof as it has valid details of proof of residence, age, identity and biometrics.

The prepaid card based on Aadhaar card will be available in the National Capital region (NCR) and can be topped up in any identified banks. The prepaid forum supported bank as SBI, ICICI BankAxis BankHDFC Bank, Indian Overseas Bank on the visa platform.
