Transactions made from debit cards now require PIN punching

From Sunday Onwards, in order to reduce fraudulent activities, debit card holders will now have to punch their PIN numbers when the card is used. It has also been advised that people should not give their ATM - Debit card to anybody else. The physical form records of the PIN should be kept by the customer. As per a Canara Bank official, the PIN is an additional security for ATM cum Debit card.

In order to complete a sales transaction, the merchant would have to swipe the card and punch in the amount. After that, in order for the transaction to be complete, the customer would be required to punch the PIN.

When it comes to credit cards, it has become a mandatory requirement that any international transaction done on a credit card which even includes online sales or purchases, the customer would have to get the EMV chip card along with a pin as a replacement of the present credit cards that is with them.
