NRI deposits are increasing gradually in commercial Banks

It has been reported that NRI deposits with the commercial banks has increased in past few years. The data have shown that from June 2008 to June 2014 the NRI deposits are gradually increasing.

Over the period the NRI deposits have increased from Rs 29,889 in June 2008 to Rs 94,097 crore in June 2014. Hitherto the domestic deposits have also increased Rs 75,599 crore in March 2008 to Rs1,89,831 crore in June 2014.

In NRI deposits, private sector banks had the highest share, 40.29 per cent. Of the total NRI deposits, 63.88 per cent was from semi-urban areas and the share of the urban and rural areas was 32.73 per cent and 3.39 per cent respectively.
