Day care facilities for children had been a practice seen in IT companies. It is now finding place in the banking culture too thereby bringing a huge sigh of relief to the banker mothers.

Striking a balance between personal and professional commitments usually becomes a hassle for the working mother. The crèche facility in banks would aid a lot in mitigating this hassle. Recently public sector lender United Bank of India inaugurated such a day care center in its head office in Kolkata.

Lenders like Standard Chartered Bank and HDFC Bank already have such centers in their offices.
Increasing demands from employees regarding necessity of striking work-life balance coupled with high attrition figures in organizations have led to the incorporation of this facility in banks.

"New mothers are mentally agonised to leave their babies behind with a domestic help. This affects their productivity. Having such a facility will relieve them of this stress and improve their output," said Ms Seema Singh, Deputy General Manager, HR, United Bank of India.
