Amidst a surge in demand for retail loans, the largest mortgage lender, HDFC has disbursed retail loans amounting to Rs 3,000 crore. Pralay Mondal, HDFC bank Country head Retail assets, said, "For the full year, our retail credit growth is expected to be a little faster than the industry...The revival in economy and government stimulus have helped reviving the spending power of customers. We expect a pick up in loan growth moving ahead." The bank has a retail loan portfolio of around Rs 60,000 crore. Of this 47-50 percent of the incremental loan advances and 32 percent of the deposits came from non-metros. HDFC also plans to exercise the warrants issued by HDFC bank during the merger with Centurion bank of Punjab into equity. Following the conversion in early December, HDFC's stake in the bank will rise to almost 24 per cent. HDFC has a credit card base of 4.5 million and debit card base of 9 million. The overall card spends saw an increase of 22 percent over the previous month. |
