The largest lender of the country State Bank of India is aiming to come up with yet another level of authentication of customers so as to prevent the any chances of altercation in its core banking arena. The bank thus aims to introduce biometric authentication devices in its branches for customer identification.

The devices will be facilitated with single finger capture. Employees of the bank would be using them in the front end. The devices will be well connected in the backend with a centralised biometric authentication software solution.

While customer ID and password would still be the first layer of authentication for customers, the biometric devices would act as the second level of authentication.

The bank has plans of first launching 5000 such biometric devices.
