Officers of the country's largest bank, State Bank of India, held a demonstration to protest the bank's move to begin seven day banking in its Lucknow branch. The demonstration was held outside SBI's local head office in Lucknow.

At the meeting of the protestors, the general secretary of State Bank of India Officers' Association, Mr. BK Awasthi said, in the present times, when services of alternative channels like ATM, internet banking and mobile banking are being used by customers, the feasibility of seven day banking is doubtful. This step would affect the staff adversely.

He went on to add that the offices of Central Government, secretariat, reserve Bank and Nabard also have five working days in a week. This is not causing them any difficulty. In addition to this, Indian Banks' Association already has been given a proposal pleading for a five day week for bank employees by various employees organization in the banking sector.
