In recent days, the shares of the HDFC and the HDFC Bank have come down, which is a worrying factor. The executive director of the HDFC Bank feels that it is very difficult to recover from this present position. The cost of the funds has been increasing considerably, in the last six to eight weeks and has become very difficult to recover. Most of the public sector banks have increased their base rate, because of the administrative reason. Mr. Sukthankar said that the banks have to review their base rate, once in three months. He further said that the banks have their own problems they need to calculate the base rate and the deposit rates. Whenever the banks review the base rate, they may have to increase, every time they review, according to him. In the last few days, the shares have fallen like a deck of cards. It may take time for the shares to recover.
