Public sector lender, State Bank of Travancore has initiated a new project called 'Sahayahastham' as part of its financial inclusion drive. The project was launched by the Banking Ombudsman, Mr F.R. Joseph. The project is aided by Kudumbasree units which are the state's initiative for eradication of poverty in Andhra Pradesh, informed a spokesperson of the bank. The launch took place at a function at Veeranakavu village in rural Thiruvananthapuram. Speaking on the event, Mr P. Pradeep Kumar, Managing Director, SBT, said that the project is aimed at offering banking services to every doorstep at costs affordable by all segments of society. Biometric cards would be used for the process. He said that since the machine would be storing the fingerprint of the customer, so it would mean total security of deposits.
