HDFC Bank’s new offering for NRI’s: One Family One Bank Zero balance account

On the festive season of Onam, the private sector bank, HDFC Bank, has floated a new bank account for Non Resident Indians in Kerala. The bank account, called One Family, One Bank, Zero Balance account, does not have a minimum balance requirement.

The account has been launched keeping in mind the needs of the family members of NRI's residing in the country, who open NRE and NRO accounts with the Mumbai based bank. The offer is available only till September 15, 2012. At present, this account is being offered in Kochi branches of the bank only. HDFC has planned to make this offer available in other regions of Kerala also.

A senior executive of the bank, Mr. Abhay Aima said that the account will enable NRIs to transfer money between their accounts and the accounts of their families in a hassel-free way, by using direct banking channels.
