Second largest leading bank of the country – ICICI bank conducted a Kisan Sampark Programme in 170 villages of Punjab and Haryana. As a part of its financial inclusion plan the bank organized this program. The aim of the program was to create awareness among the farmers regarding the agri -banking tools that will assist them. The program was initiated to develop the savings habit among the farmers.
In the program bank highlighted the importance of banking through a formal financial institution rather than the local lenders and unorganized centers. They taught them how to calculate the interest, the importance of maintaining a consistent repayment cycle and many more things that the farmers are unaware of. Then the bank also informed them about the products and schemes that bank provide like farmer finance, jewel loans, tractor loans, Rural Business Credit and Kisan Kalpviraksh.
At present ICICI bank is having a network of 290 branches in Punjab and Haryana. More than 50% of the branches of the bank are in the rural and semi- urban areas, The Bank is managing pensions for over four lakhs customers from rural areas across Muktsar, Ludhiana, Faridkot, Patiala and Bhatinda. Bank has been successfully banking all across the country so far.
